Congratulations to the talented and gorgeous Natalie Portman on her Best Actress win for her riveting performance in Black Swan! At Sunday’s Oscars, the expectant mother looked absolutely radiant. It has been a long journey to the Oscars, with many awards shows to attend, and to honor Natalie’s success and her pregnancy we want to take a look back at all the gorgeous gowns she has worn while expecting this year.
Due the last week in June, she rocked the red carpet in a draping violet gown by Rodarte this past Sunday. Vibrant hues are right on trend this season, and Natalie chose a gorgeous, versatile color. Her stunning gown was tailored perfectly to her body, and many features of it made it an excellent choice for an expectant mother. The wide, off the shoulder straps culminated at the bust in a beautiful V-shape, elongating the neck and creating an overall slimming look. An empire waist was created by gathering underneath the bust, accentuating the thinnest part of her body. From the bust, a Grecian look was achieved by gentle draping fabric cascading lightly to the ground. The lightness and effortlessness of Natalie’s look was maintained by adding only statement earrings and a matching clutch. Recently revealing her relaxed attitude to Hello magazine, Natalie stated, “I have no idea what motherhood is going to be like, so I'll feel it out.” The effortlessness of her dress truly demonstrates her laid back personality, making it an even more perfect choice for her. For such a special night with her big win for The Black Swan, Natalie could not have picked a more fitting and gorgeous dress.
Natalie had carried the gorgeous draped style on from the Directors Guild Awards, where she wore a long, black, Michael Kors gown. The gown draped beautifully over her baby bump, but what we liked most was the embellished neckline. Accents of gold lay beautifully against the black background, and paired with a gold cuff and chunky black heels a strong yet feminine look was achieved.
At the SAG Awards, Natalie took a nearly opposite approach but with an equally beautiful outcome. She wore a minimalist strapless gown, accented with only crystal beads across the top. This dress proudly showcased her growing belly and maintained a crisp, clean feel. With her hair pulled back to accent her collarbone and neck, Natalie looked radiant.
Amongst all the beautiful gowns, Natalie wore several cocktail dresses to less formal events related to the awards season. All of her choices show that she is not afraid to try a variety of color pallets, from classic black to bright yellow to deep jewel tones. At the Indie Spirit Awards she donned an above the knee baby-doll styled dress in yellow and nude tones. Its empire waist, accented by a bold yellow waistband, created a slimming effect and its lace overlays highlighted one of the big trends this season. Paired with nude heels, a fun and flirty look was created. For a slightly more business like look at the Oscars nomination luncheon, Natalie wore a beautiful blue, ¾ length sleeve cocktail dress. A matching tie accented the empire waist and the simple look of the dress was juxtaposed with red heels and a matching clutch. This dress is so versatile, as it can be easily dressed up for a special event while just as easily being dressed down for a day at the office. With its dressy yet business look, it was a great option for Natalie’s fun yet professional event. These dresses demonstrate the flattering, functional, and fashionable style that an empire waist provides for the expectant mother and Natalie looked gorgeous in all of them.
As Natalie celebrates her big win, we know she is also excitedly awaiting the birth of her first child. We are so happy for her and fiancée Benjamin Millapied’s pregnancy, and equally excited to see more of her stunning maternity wardrobe!
