This look is classic and timeless while still being refreshing. I love pairing a solid tank, in either the classic white or a more vibrant deep hue, with a cute pair of denim shorts. Maternal America's Ribbed Cotton Tank does this perfectly. With a scoop neck and fine ribbing, it is super cute. What's more, if you plan to nurse, the last thing you want to do is flash your postpartum belly to the world while trying to unhook a new nursing bra for your hungry baby. Their D&A (during and after) line of maternity/tops provide a lot of sophisticated styles in cool prints and solids. In particular, their D&A ¾ sleeves Sash Tie in pretty Teal is a great all-season look for any workplace. This top is a front cross-over empire waist design with a V-neck that hits high enough not to reveal cleavage while still flattering your shape. Nursing access can be made under the empire waist sash or above from the cross over front design. You can dress this top up or down for day or night.

Another great choice for work by Japanese Weekend is the D&A cami which comes in a variety of colors. Similarly this cami works great during and after pregnancy and nursing access is from under the empire waist stretch band which provides an overlay of fabric across the bust. The cami also has a stylish bottom band which works great for both a blooming belly (by keeping the fabric from tenting out) and for postpartum wear as the pleats work to disguise a postpartum belly. • Show Off Your Assets

Whether pregnant or not, you always want to dress to play up your assets. When you are pregnant, you may gain new assets, like a bigger chest or a more voluptuous bottom. Now is the time to experiment with some new styles and show off your curves.

    Show Off Your Chest

nursing tankiniWhen you are pregnant, your chest may "pop" long before your belly does. This is the time to play up your chest with flirty necklines and a little more cleavage. Experiment with sweetheart design dresses and tops with show off your shoulders and give a smooth foundation. Invest in a well fitted bra for a smooth sculpted look. Make sure you your bra cups, straps and underwires don't dig into your skin as you don't want to constrict breasts, just support.

The kimono top style works very well for both maternity and postpartum for nursing. Pair this wide V neck style top with a pretty necklace and just a enough cleavage and you will be a showstopper. Collarbones are always sexy to show off as well. So, if you have defined collarbones, wear a scoop neck or bodice top without a necklace and some spotlight earrings. Avoid turtlenecks and high necklines that just add bulk. Shapeless tops that many pregnant women opt for make larger bust and a pregnant belly just look big overall and do not flatter your curves. Generally more fitted is more flattering than bulky shapeless designs that just adds weight.

    Flaunt Your Butt

crop jeansIf you have a great butt, then play it up. Fitted jeans with cute seamed pockets add that bit of accentuation to your assets. However, jeans and pants with big flap back pockets actually increase the volume of your backside without defining your curves. Skirts or pants with contoured seams give a rounded smooth appearance to the bottom and de-emphasize the sides, particularly if want to play down your hips. Ruching designs in a dress or long fitted top that extends along the entire back to the bottom gives a voluptuous sexy look without adding volume or pounds. Cropped jackets that hit higher on your waist show off your bottom, especially when they are in a contrasting color to your pants. TIP: Thongs or seamless briefs are better undergarments when wearing snug pants or dresses and thinner fabrics.

    If You Love Your Arms

Then play them up with ruffled cap sleeve tops or dresses or a racer-back tank with a sequined front that defines shoulders and plays up arms. Try a strapless or one shoulder dress to put the focus on your arms and shoulders. A choice necklace with a fancy neckline can always help draw attention to arms. Also, a dark color bottom with a lighter color top draws eyes upwards.

    Show Off Your Legs

Just because you have a baby bump doesn't mean you have to hide your legs. In warmer weather don't be afraid to wear some short shorts or babydoll dresses. Avoid long and mid calf length skirts or loose pants and capris that hide legs and add bulk. Play up your legs with sheer, opaque or textured tights. Remember to moisturize legs or even try a light faux tanner to even out skin tone and add a hint of color.

Pregnancy can be a fun time to experiment with different kinds of fashion and styles. As you body is constantly evolving each month, try to highlight a different asset as you shop for new maternity clothes. Look for clothes that have a lot of stretch to take you through the season as your belly grows. Remember that fitted is often more flattering and slimming than the undefined tented look our mothers were subject to during their pregnancies. Fashion should be fun, so enjoy your new curves!

  • Maternity Clothes For All Body Types

When you are pregnant, suddenly your shape and size are changing daily. What looks used to work well and flatter your figure may suddenly look ridiculous or unflattering on your evolving frame. This can be particularly challenging around the Holiday Season or for more dress-up occasions when you really want to look your best and not let pregnancy get in the way. Here are some general guidelines to dressing when pregnant according to you shape.

    Generally When Pregnant

When you are pregnant don't be afraid to show some skin. A pregnant body can be very sensual and you still have great assets. So don't be shy about showing off great legs or pretty arms, shoulders or going strapless. Be sure to define your shape the way your like it. You want some definition to you pregnant belly without going uncomfortably skin tight. Grecian can be flattering as it can drape over your curves to show off the gist of your belly without showing your belly button in detail. However, too big equates to baggy which only makes you look bigger. An empire waist looks that are more contained look great on almost any pregnant body type. Belting dresses beneath the bust can create this look. Deep shades like teal and plum that are popular this season are flattering on pregnant shapes, particularly if you are further along than busy patterns or metallics

    Busty

Maternal America Flutter SkirtIf you are the busty type you are probably three times more busty when you are expecting. Your body has taken on new dimensions and everything you try on seems to be accentuated by your pronounced cleavage. A good look to try to de-emphasize the chest is a flirty dress in one shade. By sticking to one shade of color your figure becomes elongated and you look much leaner and slimmer.

Also going with a more tailored or structured dress that gives you a clear silhouette, you better define your shape. For example, instead of going hippie chic, go with better bust support and strong vertical pleats. A hemmed and pleated knee length flirty dress with a structured chest and wide straps will do wonders for your figure. Finally, always look to support and lift. Forget strapless or backless dresses as you will never find the level of support you need. Always look for a dress or top with wide enough shoulder straps for a supportive bra.

    Hippy

Maternal_America_Embellished_DressA skirt or dress with inverted pleats keeps hips looking narrower. An A-line skirt is also a good choice for camouflaging hips. Even just a flared hem de-emphasizes the hips. Again choose structure in defining your silhouette so you show off a small empire waist and don't get swallowed in something loose and baggy. Remember to show off your best assets, so if you have pretty shoulders, flaunt them with a sleeveless bodice dress, strapless or one shoulder style. Draw attention to your best body parts up high - look for a jeweled neckline or brighter colors around the face or neck. Even wearing some bling jewelry will keep the gaze upwards.

    Petite

If you are petite and you don't want to tower in platform shoes or stilettos when you are pregnant, there are some other tricks to add some length to your frame. If you have great legs, then show them off. Go for shorter hems and sheerer hose to elongate your shape. Show off some skin somewhere- arms and necklines are a great place to start. Pleats and bubble hem can work well if its not overdone - you want to add some volume without looking like a powder puff. Accessorize smartly. A few well chosen pieces that don't weigh you down is all you need to add some height.

    Tall

If you are tall, then you have a lot of choices. Tall frames can get away with prints and patterns, horizontal stripes and all the usual hazards most women need to avoid can actually be more flattering when tall. Do make sure your clothing fits you well. Beware of cuts that tent out and make you appear bigger than you are or that miss your curves. Sleek and fitted always looks better no matter how far along you are in your pregnancy. Do be careful with super short hemlines and minis as they can make you look like a giant whose clothes got shrunk in the dryer. Otherwise, have fun with accessories as you can get away with more to wear as you have more space to fill!

So whatever your shape, find some maternity clothes that fit and flatter your figure and make you feel as beautiful and sexy and as you truly are. Bottom line, if you feel great in the clothes you are in, then you will project that to those around you.

At the "Keep a Child Alive" gala in November, Paula wore a gorgeous and modern cocktail dress. Still at the beginning months of her pregnancy, she chose a visually interesting abstract dress. The abstract design makes an otherwise simple dress modern, and the shape of the dress fit her beautifully. The longer sleeve is sophisticated and also draws the attention upwards. With a simple, pulled back updo, Paula truly looks stunning. For a similar look that can be dressed up or down, try the Beaded Print Dress from Maternal America. The abstract pattern and ¾ length sleeve mirror Paula's flattering look. A v-neckline elongates the neck and frames the face beautifully, while the bead detailing at the bust creates a great shape and visual interest. From day to night, this dress works for many occasions.

In January, Paula was seen at many red carpet events, looking equally gorgeous at every one. At the People's Choice Awards she wore a gorgeous LBD (little black dress) which was very figure flattering and a great choice for expectant mothers. The deep v-neck creates a longer and leaner look, while the gathering underneath the bust accentuates the smallest part of the body while still flattering the baby bump. For a similar style but more casual look try the Organic D&A Maternity/Nursing Dress from Japanese Weekend. A v-neck and empire waist is figure flattering. Like Paula's dress, small cap sleeves are cute and trendy (and great for those with smaller shoulders, as they balance out the body). For a great night out look, Maternal America's Beaded Diamond Dress provides the same great neck and bust line, creating an elegant yet sexy look.

One of my favorite looks of Paula's many gorgeous red carpet appearances was at the Golden Globes in mid-January. Her dress absolutely wowed me! The strapless gown accentuated her shoulders and created a beautiful neckline. The cinched empire waist drew attention to the smallest part of the body, above the natural waist, and then gracefully skimmed her body, creating a long and lean look. The sparkling of the dress, combined with the gorgeous jewelry she wore, really made a statement. A similar red carpet look is the Sleeveless Maxi Maternity Dress from Olian. Although not strapless, the intricate strapped design draws the attention upwards, creating a beautiful neckline. A delicate empire waist gathers just underneath the bust and drapes beautifully to the ground. Adding bold sparkling earrings and a great bracelet create the jeweled look of Paula's Golden Globe worthy gown.

At the Academy Awards just last week, Paula hit another high style note with her beautiful red gown. At seven months pregnant, she looked radiant and stunning, celebrating her baby bump and accentuating all her best features. A wide v-neck elongates the neck and shows off her gorgeous shoulders. With the added ruffle at the neck (a hot spring trend!) a visually interesting neckline is created. Since there is more skin showing on top, a longer dress is the perfect way to go, as it balances out the entire look. I love that Paula chose to wear red. It makes a statement, looking classy and subtly sexy in one. Paula has her hair pulled back, which is always a great option when wearing a dress with an intricate neckline. Also, if your shoulders or collarbone are one of your favorite features, it is a great way to show them off.

Throughout all stages of her pregnancy, Paula has looked stunning on the red carpet. With her growing baby bump, she demonstrates great ways to wear maternity fashions. Although most of us will not be walking the red carpet, certain aspects of her gowns work well for any occasion. A gorgeous neckline, an empire waist, or some funky jewelry looks great for many maternity clothes. Congratulations Paula and Robin! We can't wait to see baby Julian!
