Maternity Baby Shower Dresses

For one’s baby shower, finding that perfect dress is incredibly important. Just as it is for any special occasion, one wants to look and feel beautiful while maintaining a high level of comfort. With warmer months approaching, there are many fantastic dress options available for one’s baby shower which emulate some of the latest season’s trends while maintaining a classic style. From bold colors to gorgeous patterns to flowing maxi dresses, there is the perfect dress for everyone. Once you find your favorite style, you will feel comfortable and look gorgeous at your baby shower!

Maxi dresses are incredibly popular this season, as they have been worn by recent expectant celebrities from Kourtney Kardashian to Amy Adams. While Kourtney wore her maxi dress to a red carpet event, Amy chose a more laid back approach and wore hers on a day around town. This versatility is one of the maxi dress’s greatest qualities, as it can be worn for a casual baby shower or dressed up for a more formal one. Incredibly flattering, maxi dresses emphasize the smallest part of your body with an empire waist. This accentuation directly under the bust gently cascades to ankle or floor length, creating a tall and elongated look. Aside from their flattering style, maxi dresses also are incredibly comfortable. You will not have to worry about being squeezed or uncomfortable, as the flowing dress allows room for your baby bump without creating a baggy look! The Halter Spring Green Maternity Dress from Olian Maternity is a great option for a baby shower, as its fresh spring look is vibrant and fun, especially when paired with a gorgeous bracelet or pair of earrings. Its casual elegance is emphasized by braided halter straps and its soft fabric is flattering and comfortable. Whether you choose to dress it up or down, a maxi dress is the perfect combination of elegance and carefree style-perfect for an expectant mother!

Bright colors are always on trend for baby showers, as they are a celebratory sign of the excitement in the air. From bright pinks to deep greens, deep colors have always been a staple for expectant mothers. This season is no different, and one color that truly stands out is turquoise. Its rich hue is flattering on everyone and it resonates of spring and summer. Maternal America’s new spring collection includes the beautiful turquoise Front Tie Smock Dress, perfect for baby showers. Smocking on the bust and a front tie is incredibly flattering, and the flow of the soft fabric provides an effortlessly chic look. Paired with flats or sandals, and either gold or silver jewelry, this dress is sure to make a statement at your shower. The Front Tie Dress, also from Maternal America, demonstrates the turquoise trend by creating a beautiful abstract pattern of different hues of blues. Tying underneath the bust, a flattering empire waist silhouette is created while wide shoulder straps create a balanced look. It is easily dressed up or down, and can be reworn many times after your baby shower!

Each spring season, floral prints make their way back onto the runway, and this season is no exception. From dainty floral designs to bold abstract flowers, this trend is refreshing, beautiful, and fun. When wearing a floral print, remember to choose one that is in proportion with your body size. For petite women, choose prints that are smaller, as a large print can overwhelm a small frame. For taller women, a larger print can be fun and festive. The Floral Maxi Dress from Japanese Weekend combines bright colors with a bold floral pattern. A scoop neck and empire waist are incredibly flattering. Paired with strappy sandals, a look fit for any baby shower is instantly created. The Cocktail Dress, also from Japanese Weekend, is an absolutely gorgeous dress. The black, red, and white pattern is a classic combination which is modernized by the beautiful floral print. Knee length, this dress looks great paired with heels or flats.

Finding the perfect dress for your baby shower is very important, and there are many great options available. As long as you are comfortable and find a style that works for you, you will look and feel great!

Sure it’s fun to look pregnant when you are pregnant, but who wants to be asked “when are you due” at 3 weeks postpartum? What’s more, if you plan to nurse, the last thing you want to do is flash your postpartum belly to the world while trying to unhook a new nursing bra for your hungry baby. Maternity Clothes For All Body Types

When you are pregnant, suddenly your shape and size are changing daily. What looks used to work well and flatter your figure may suddenly look ridiculous or unflattering on your evolving frame. This can be particularly challenging around the Holiday Season or for more dress-up occasions when you really want to look your best and not let pregnancy get in the way. Here are some general guidelines to dressing when pregnant according to you shape.

Generally When Pregnant

When you are pregnant don’t be afraid to show some skin. A pregnant body can be very sensual and you still have great assets. So don’t be shy about showing off great legs or pretty arms, shoulders or going strapless. Be sure to define your shape the way your like it. You want some definition to you pregnant belly without going uncomfortably skin tight. Grecian can be flattering as it can drape over your curves to show off the gist of your belly without showing your belly button in detail. However, too big equates to baggy which only makes you look bigger. An empire waist looks that are more contained look great on almost any pregnant body type. Belting dresses beneath the bust can create this look. Deep shades like teal and plum that are popular this season are flattering on pregnant shapes, particularly if you are further along than busy patterns or metallics

Busty

Maternal America Flutter SkirtIf you are the busty type you are probably three times more busty when you are expecting. Your body has taken on new dimensions and everything you try on seems to be accentuated by your pronounced cleavage. A good look to try to de-emphasize the chest is a flirty dress in one shade. By sticking to one shade of color your figure becomes elongated and you look much leaner and slimmer.

Also going with a more tailored or structured dress that gives you a clear silhouette, you better define your shape. For example, instead of going hippie chic, go with better bust support and strong vertical pleats. A hemmed and pleated knee length flirty dress with a structured chest and wide straps will do wonders for your figure. Finally, always look to support and lift. Forget strapless or backless dresses as you will never find the level of support you need. Always look for a dress or top with wide enough shoulder straps for a supportive bra.

Hippy

Maternal_America_Embellished_DressA skirt or dress with inverted pleats keeps hips looking narrower. An A-line skirt is also a good choice for camouflaging hips. Even just a flared hem de-emphasizes the hips. Again choose structure in defining your silhouette so you show off a small empire waist and don’t get swallowed in something loose and baggy. Remember to show off your best assets, so if you have pretty shoulders, flaunt them with a sleeveless bodice dress, strapless or one shoulder style. Draw attention to your best body parts up high – look for a jeweled neckline or brighter colors around the face or neck. Even wearing some bling jewelry will keep the gaze upwards.

Petite

If you are petite and you don’t want to tower in platform shoes or stilettos when you are pregnant, there are some other tricks to add some length to your frame. If you have great legs, then show them off. Go for shorter hems and sheerer hose to elongate your shape. Show off some skin somewhere- arms and necklines are a great place to start. Pleats and bubble hem can work well if its not overdone – you want to add some volume without looking like a powder puff. Accessorize smartly. A few well chosen pieces that don’t weigh you down is all you need to add some height.

Tall

If you are tall, then you have a lot of choices. Tall frames can get away with prints and patterns, horizontal stripes and all the usual hazards most women need to avoid can actually be more flattering when tall. Do make sure your clothing fits you well. Beware of cuts that tent out and make you appear bigger than you are or that miss your curves. Sleek and fitted always looks better no matter how far along you are in your pregnancy. Do be careful with super short hemlines and minis as they can make you look like a giant whose clothes got shrunk in the dryer. Otherwise, have fun with accessories as you can get away with more to wear as you have more space to fill!

So whatever your shape, find some maternity clothes that fit and flatter your figure and make you feel as beautiful and sexy and as you truly are. Bottom line, if you feel great in the clothes you are in, then you will project that to those around you.

Oscar Red Carpet Fashion Trends

From the stunning stars walking the red carpet to the hilarious hosts, the incredible array of movies honored to the thoughtful acceptance speeches, the Academy Awards this year was a night to remember. With Kathryn Bigelow’s historic night as the first female to win the award for Best Director and the array of talented women honored in the Best Actress category, the ladies truly made a statement. Their amazing performances, directorial prowess, and all over impact were felt the entire night. However, as they arrived on the red carpet all eyes were tuned to what designers and trends would be worn. From Sandra Bullock’s gorgeous metallic dress to Gabourey Sidebe’s deep blue gown, one could see that the stars went all out for the evening and several hot trends became apparent.

Metallic

cameron_diaz_and_sandra_bullockThe metallic trend was huge this year, seen on stars such as Cameron Diaz, Sandra Bullock, and Kate Winslet. Metallic dresses look great on the red carpet, as they ensure one will stand out and not get lost in the crowd. Both the gold and silver metallic look is stunning, with some designers even starting to blend gold and silver tones together. When wearing a statement metallic dress, it is important to keep the rest of your look simple. By wearing little to no jewelry with a simple hairdo, an elegant look is created. These actors got it just right!

One Shoulder

The one shoulder dress was popular on the red carpet, and for good reason. It creates a beautiful neckline, drawing the attention upwards, and provides plenty of bust support. Sigourney Weaver looked stunning in her red asymmetrical gown while Kate Beckinsale rocked the one shoulder look (in a metallic!) at an after party. For a modern yet comfortable look, the one shoulder dress is a great way to go.

Neutral/Nude

anna_kendrickShades of nude were seen throughout the evening as stars arrived, with each dress looking equally as stunning as the one before it. Anna Kendrick looked beautiful in her pale pink draped gown and Demi Moore was flawless in a nude strapless ruffled dress. Shades of nude, whether a cocoa color or a light pink, are fashionable and gorgeous! By choosing a dress with some draping or ruffles, a beautiful silhouette is created. To really showcase a nude dress, pair it with neutral colored accessories, such as black or brown, so that the dress becomes the focal point.

Slits

Whether cut high or low, obvious or hidden, slit dresses were a popular trend at the Oscars. To showcase your legs in a sexy yet fashionable way, a slit dress is the way to go. From Meryl Streep’s demure slit to Zoe Saldana’s ruffled slit, a beautiful look is created. Slits are feminine and flirty and truly make a statement. If doing a high slit, make sure your dress does not have a low neckline. When showing more skin on the bottom you can be a bit more conservative on top, and vice versa.

Deep Blue

gabourey_sidebeGorgeous shades of jewel toned and deep blue were seen on the red carpet, taking the place of the usual go-to black dress. Kristin Stewart wore a beautiful midnight blue while Gabourey Sidebe had a lighter but equally rich blue gown, adorned with stunning jewels. These rich shades of blue look great on all skin tones and make a strong statement. Easily paired with gold or silver accessories, a deep blue is a great change if you want to switch up the black.

All of these trends are fun and pretty, and a great way to spice up your wardrobe. Even though the majority of us will not be walking the red carpet anytime soon, we can still wear these looks in our daily life. Whether it is a casual maternity maxi dress with a slit or a one shoulder strap cocktail dress (in a rich blue) there are many fun ways to apply these red carpet trends to your daily life.

Claudia Schiffer Stripes It Up With Her Maternity Style

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer, 39, is expecting her third child with hubby Matthew Vaughn! The happy couple, who wed in 2002, is very excited for the birth of their child, telling the Daily Mail “We are delighted with the news and can’t wait to add to our family.” They sure make one duo of stylish parents! Due this May, Claudia has already been spotted out and about in some super cute and comfortable outfits. From her day to evening wear, I cannot wait to see what the rest of her maternity and postpartum style will bring.

One of my favorite outfits of hers exemplifies a hot trend for expectant mothers: stripes. We have always been told to not wear stripes, as they can widen our shape. When done correctly, however, stripes are chic and refreshing! Out in London this month, Claudia pairs a short black and white striped dress with leggings. Comfortable yet stylish, this look is great for daytime or for dressing up at night. Keeping stripes thinner provides a modern and flattering look, and pairing a colored stripe against white is fresh and hip. A striped dress made of wool works well for cooler months while a cotton alternative is great as summer approaches.

Claudia Schiffer StripesJenna Elfman Stripes January 2010Back in August, Ellen Pompeo was spotted on a day outing wearing a similar style. Her thinly striped dress looked comfy and trendy, perfect for going out to lunch or running errands. When paired with cute flats or sandals, an instant stylish outfit is created.

While both Claudia and Ellen demonstrated a more casual look with stripes, Jenna Elfman showed how to take them from day to night on her January 4th appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Maintaining the same idea with a black and white striped dress paired with skinny jeans, she made it a nighttime look by choosing a dress with sparkle and pairing it with heels and a trendy coat. Jenna Elfman Stripes October 2009A structured blazer would look great with this outfit as well, and adding some gorgeous jewelry will take your look right into evening. These small touches can really change the look of an entire outfit. In another evening look which demonstrates a great way to wear stripes, Jenna rocked an asymmetrical striped sweater dress on the red carpet in October. The asymmetrical stripes provide a trendy look while elongating your upper body.

As Claudia, Ellen, and Jenna demonstrate, stripes, when worn correctly, are fun and stylish. Doing an all over stripe is too much, but pairing a cute dress or great top with a neutral bottom is a flattering way to wear this trend. Whether you choose to wear your favorite pair of jeans or a comfy pair of leggings, a striped top or dress looks great.

For a casual, comfortable, yet very flattering look try pairing the ¾ Sleeve Striped Nursing Henley from 1 in the Oven with a great pair of jeans.OV167 You will look gorgeous and feel comfortable. With spring coming, bright colors and fine stripes make a great combination for a refreshing new look. Maternal America’s Crochet Top with thin asymmetrical stripes creates visual interest and really adds style and flare to any outfit. Whether you pair it with jeans, khakis, or capris, a fresh look for spring is sure to be created. A good work appropriate look which demonstrates the stripe trend is the Side Cinch Maternity/Nursing Top with Cami from Japanese Weekend. The thin stripes look great paired with black slacks, creating a professional look that could also easily be taken into the evening.

Whichever look you decide to wear, making sure that you are comfortable and confident is the number one priority. If you are confident and feel great, you will bring your own touch to any outfit. Congratulations again, Claudia and Matthew! We can’t wait to see your newest addition (as well as Claudia’s great maternity style)!

Amy Adams Shows Preganancy Style

Amy Adams Early JanuaryWhen I think of stylish sophistication, subtle sexiness, and pregnancy, I immediately think of Amy Adams. Incredibly talented, beautiful, and expecting her first baby (with fiance Darren Le Gallo) this spring, Amy is one stylish expectant mother. Although I love her as her endearing characters in Enchanted and Julie & Julia and was extremely impressed by her Oscar nominated role in Doubt, I simply cannot stop raving about her pregnancy wardrobe. From a casual day around town to the Golden Globes, Amy looks radiant, maintaining her signature classic style throughout her pregnancy.

For casual wear, Amy has stayed stylish and comfortable throughout her pregnancy. In the earlier months, she was spotted on a shopping trip in a cute plaid top and boot-cut jean. Her top is perfect for a casual outing. Its loose shape is comfortable while not overwhelming her frame, and the trendy plaid pattern creates visual interest. This top combined with a pair of fitted boot-cut jeans is the perfect combination, as the structure of the jeans is balanced out by the loose-fitting top. The boot-cut jean tends to be the most universally flattering jean, since it balances out the entire shape of the leg, and a dark wash denim is incredibly figure flattering.

Amy Adams Casual LeggingsIf you are just beginning to show and are not quite ready for a maternity jean, grab a Bellaband to wear over the waist of your pre-pregnancy jeans, and you will be comfortable and fashionable. Amy was spotted in another flattering and comfortable daytime outfit in early January, combining black leggings with a long empire-waist top. The leggings are a great option, particularly as you get farther along in your pregnancy and want a bit more stretch. Paired with a flowing top (yet with an empire waist to emphasize the smallest part of the torso), this outfit is both comfy and flattering!

From daywear to evening wear, Amy makes a seamless transition. In early January, Amy premiered her romantic comedy Leap Year and truly demonstrated the definition of red carpet maternity fashion. In a stunning red dress which hit just below the knee, she could not have looked more beautiful! This dress works for so many reasons. One, the fabric has movement and does not cling to her body. Secondly, the empire waist, cinched by a wide ribbon, defines the thinnest part of her body while celebrating her baby bump. Finally, the intricate neckline provides a frame for her gorgeous face. This dress is a great style for an expectant mother at any special occasion!

Amy-Adams-Golden-Globes-JanAt the Golden Globes, Amy chose a similar style dress yet with a more structured feel. Once again, the empire-waist, knee length dress created a beautiful shape on her body and the wide shoulder strap provided bust support. With a thicker fabric, the dress provides excellent structure and a truly refined look. I love that her hair is pulled back, as it showcases her face and creates a sleek look. From cocktail parties to galas, a dress in this cut is incredibly figure flattering.

A final piece in Amy’s wardrobe that really grabbed my attention was the beautiful coat she wore to the taping of The David Letterman Show in January. Grey with red piping on the belt, this coat was flattering and stylish. The empire waist was perfect for her growing belly, while the structured shoulders added shape and definition. This coat is a great way to pull together an outfit!

Amy Adams is an incredibly talented actress who looks radiant both onscreen and off. Her pregnancy style, like her acting, is impeccable and I cannot wait to see her new baby this spring.
