  • Spring Maternity Trend -- Floral Prints

As the weather heats up and Spring approaches it is time for a maternity wardrobe shift into lighter fabrics, lighter colors and spring themed prints. One print that never goes out of style for the Spring Season is florals. The floral design is a perfect addition to your ensemble whether worn as an addition or accessory to your outfit such as a shoe, purse or light scarf or as the main statement as in a gorgeous floor length maxi dress, florals are designed to bring a light hearted positive mood to all you represent.

    Maternal America Asymetric Ruffle Dress

Pregnancy is the perfect time to experiment with fashion and prints that you might not normally wear in your everyday life. Florals patterns also happen to be in style and in full bloom this spring, just as you are in your pregnancy! Now is a great time to try out a fluttery floral blouse or Babydoll dress. Check out the beautiful maternity swimwear floral patterns that are a great way to add some flowers to your wardrobe.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when selecting a floral print:

    1) Choosing the right size is most important when it comes to maternity clothes, especially when dealing with floral prints. A simple rule to remember is to keep the size of the print in proportion with the size of your body, allowing a little room to bloom when you are expecting. If you are petite, look for smaller flower sizes so that you will not look overpowered. If you are taller or have a larger build you can go larger on your floral prints and look great.

    2) When choosing to wear a floral print dress, top, or skirt, keep the accessories simple to keep the look balanced. A floral maternity maxi dress looks stunning when paired with simple sandals or espadrille and non flashy jewelry. You can pull your favorite color from the dress and find a great necklace, bracelet, or shoe in that color. If you choose to wear a colorful floral maternity top, pair it with a neutral bottom or vice versa. By keeping the pattern only on the clothing and accessorizing with complimentary colors, a polished sleek look is created.

    3) If you are really concerted about looking frumpy in florals or can't get Kim Kardashian's infamous Met Gala maternity dress out of your mind, then go for the more abstract paisley patterns. This also gives a fresh look for spring while sure to be modern and a far cry from your mother's curtains or your grandmother's wardrobe.

Japanese Weekend Red Sun Maternity Dress4) Break it up with the flowers. You can make florals edgy by your shoe and jewelry choice and simply by pairing a floral top with a pair of solid leggings. A great pair of flats, a large ring in the shape of a flower, or a floral print scarf all make great additions to your maternity outfit if you want to go light with the flowers while giving a nod to the flowers.

Most important is to follow your personal style. Choose a floral print that is truly you and that represents your personality. It can be a dainty abstract pastel floral pattern to a large statement floral maxi skirt with strong fuchsia colors and black contrast.

Find and wear what makes you happy and have some fun with your maternity fashion this Spring!

  • The Magic of Maternity Swimwear

One must-have item that every pregnant woman needs in her wardrobe this summer is a maternity swimsuit that she loves. The criteria for loving it is that you will actually wear it and maybe look forward to wearing it, and that it does in fact fit comfortably and can be worn in the water without coming off or showing through.

Many expecting women think that they really don’t need a maternity swimsuit, but the truth of the matter is that you will be hotter than hot this summer as you are running on a pregnancy thermostat, which always runs hotter than your normal pre-pregnancy temperature with elevated levels of progesterone flooding your veins. The reason they say you have a “bun in the oven” is because you are in fact cooking and yes, you are the oven.

There is probably a good chance most of us will be near water at least some point this summer and there is no more relaxing activity or safer exercise for a pregnant woman than going in the pool and actually swimming or even just wading around. Your baby is swimming inside you all the time, so why not join him and her with your own water aerobic workout, swim a lap or two or simply move around in the water and enjoy the buoyancy of a lighter belly at last. In fact it will probably be the only time where you actually feel both cool and weightless, and that in itself is reason to invest in a very nice maternity swimsuit.

The other misconception pregnant women often have, and myself included for my first pregnancy, is that you don’t actually need a maternity swimsuit. This, my friends, is an 'ole wives tale because either they don’t remember how uncomfortable it was to wear a regular swimsuit while pregnant (including buying one size up which just makes you feel bad and still doesn’t fit just right) or they probably didn’t make maternity swimsuits when those “ole wives” were around anyway. Anyone who has tried to squeeze a second to third trimester body into their pre-pregnancy swimsuit knows that it just doesn’t work and is very uncomfortable. Plus, by the end of those nine months that swimsuit is pretty much shot anyway with spandex that does not spring back into place, ever.

Maternity swimsuits are really the best invention since sliced bread. Once you try one on, in the right size, you will have a "Hallelujah" moment. Finally, at last, someone got it right! You are not fat and your body is not bigger with the same proportions, you just have completely enlarged Dolly Parton proportions that can often include not only the expected belly and chest parts but also the bottom, just to help balance out that center of gravity in the front no doubt. Plus your breast are extra sensitive, so don't even think about minimizing swimsuits nor does your tummy need any pressure. Be respectful of the bump and honor it, you do have a living being down there after all who is only getting bigger by the minute and needs to breate. Also the thought of restrictive clothing of any kind is both suffocating and nauseating to most pregnant women.

Maternity swimwear, when done well, is genius. It can have you actually looking good in your swimsuit, maybe even sexy if you allow yourself to admit it. Plus it is made to stretch and stretch and stretch comfortably where needed without falling off in the pool or getting carried away in a tidal wave (not that you should be doing any aggressive wave jumping at this point!)  As a result you can actually save money by not having to buy a new ill-fitting non-maternity swimsuit every 2 weeks or show excessive cleavage or worry about wardrobe malfunctions while enjoying the club pool with mixed company or chasing a toddler in the baby pool.

Good fitting, well made and deliciously styled maternity swimwear is your right, your privilege for being pregnant in the summer time. It's your reason to get in the pool and move those achy joints while looking good at the same time. Enjoy your pregnancy and your summer with the right maternity swimsuit!

  • Shopping For Maternity Swimwear Tankinis

Shopping for maternity swimwear can seem daunting to many women. However, by finding out what one likes beforehand the shopping process becomes easier. One popular option due to its comfort, function, and flattering style is the maternity tankini. A tankini is a two-piece swimsuit that covers one’s baby bump so that one has the feeling of a two-piece but with the coverage of a one-piece. Whether one is swimming or laying by the pool, a maternity tankini is a fabulous maternity swimwear option.

An incredibly popular maternity tankini option is the Eva Maternity Swimwear from Maternal America. Its design and style make it an absolute must-have! The top has a flattering navy and white striped print and matching solid navy bottoms which gives a nautical feel. The solid navy bottoms have adjustable side-ties for the perfect fit and sit comfortably beneath one’s baby bump. Classic and timeless, this maternity tankini is the perfect swimwear option for lounging by the pool or enjoying a cruise.

A second gorgeous maternity tankini comes from Bikini Thief, renowned designer to many celebrities. Their Green Bamboo Montauk Tankini is a very popular choice that features a white and green bamboo print that is fresh and the perfect amount of print. The top is designed with a slight bit of ruching at the bust and a built in, fully lined bra. The adjustable tank straps provide bust support as well as allowing the swimsuit to be customized to one’s own shape. There is also ruching at the side of the top for a flattering shape. The matching bottoms have extra support at the belly and are fully lined for a very comfortable fit. Super soft fabric with great stretch makes this a comfortable and flattering option.

Another great maternity tankini option is the Leopard Tie Maternity Halter from Prego Maternity. This gorgeous maternity swimwear option is all black with a leopard print tie underneath the bust for the always flattering empire-waist design. It has a scoop neck with adjustable halter ties for good bust support and light padding for a smooth shape. Matching stretchy bottoms are comfortable for swimming or lounging. The sophisticated look of the black swimsuit and the fun addition of the leopard print tie create the perfect maternity swimwear option.

The Emma Maternity Tankini from Maternal America is also an absolutely beautiful maternity swimwear option. The turquoise fabric is fresh and stylish, as well as stretchy and comfortable. The tankini top has adjustable straps and a sweetheart design. A matching turquoise brooch at the center of the bust adds unique detail and a classy feel. So stylish, one will want to wear this maternity tankini long after one’s baby has been born.

No matter which tankini one chooses, a maternity cover-up is a smart choice as it makes for an easy transition from the pool or beach to running errands or heading out for lunch. The Maternal America Convertible Dress/Skirt is the perfect choice, as it is both a dress for non-pool days and a cover-up for those days at the beach. Available in a pretty turquoise color, the soft and lightweight fabric is perfect for the warm summer months.

Overall, a maternity tankini is a versatile, functional, and very fashionable choice for one’s maternity swimwear this season. Paired with a great cover-up, one can easily transition from swimming to running about town.

  • Floral Maternity Swimwear

No matter what year it is or what the styles are this season, one style of swimwear that never goes out of fashion is that with a floral print. Floral prints exude the feeling of summer and have a certain brightness to them. For maternity swimwear, there are a multitude of floral printed options available. From bikinis to tankinis to one-pieces, there is something for everyone to choose from.

For any mother to be who wants to show off her gorgeous baby bump, a maternity bikini is a must! The Betsy Bikini from Prego Maternity Swimwear is the perfect floral option. This bikini features a halter top that is adjustable, ensuring the perfect fit. It ties at the bust with an oval ring and small bow, adding a great unique detail. The top is black with a pink rose design over it. The bow at the bust is in a contrasting cheetah print which adds a fun and trendy touch. The bottoms are in the same gorgeous floral print fabric, and have the same cheetah print at the waist. Wear the waist band rolled up or down for whatever is most comfortable, and know that the stretchy fabric ensures comfort. With its beautiful floral print and fun cheetah detailing, this is a great maternity swimwear option.

If a bikini shows a bit more skin than one is comfortable with, a tankini is an excellent choice. It provides the same feeling as a bikini in that it is a two-piece as well, but adds coverage over one’s baby bump. A stunning new option is the Rose Tie Halter, also from Prego Maternity Swimwear. The halter style top has adjustable straps that tie behind the neck and a flattering and slimming V-neck. The fabric has a white base with purple and blue roses overlaid on it with black leaves as well. For a very flattering look, two black seems run vertically over one’s belly, which elongates and slims one’s body. Solid black bottoms pull the look together. For comfort and style in one, this is a fabulous choice.

A variation on the floral theme comes from Bikini Thief in the form of their Red St. Barts Tankini. This solid red two-piece features an embroidered floral design diagonally across one’s baby bump. This detail is truly unique and makes this maternity swimsuit a must have. The top has adjustable tank straps and a slight sweetheart neck design. Matching bikini bottoms fit comfortably beneath one’s belly, and the stretchy fabric works well throughout one’s pregnancy. It is also available in black with contrasting floral embroidery.

A one piece is a great option for expectant mothers who do not want to show as much skin or who might be a more active swimmer. One option with a stunning floral print is the Blossom Empire Tank from Prego Maternity. It features a dainty floral print in shades of blue, red, and orange. The small size of the print is flattering and stylish. Great bust support is provided through adjustable tank straps as well as a hook back bra. Padded bra cups create a smooth look and the empire waist design creates a slimming figure. This maternity swimwear option is a great choice for the active swimmer. With its pretty print and bold colors, it exudes feelings of summer.

For those busy days when one leaves the pool and heads directly to one’s next stop, a good cover-up is a must. The Convertible Dress/Skirt can be worn as a dress or skirt, making it incredibly versatile. Beautiful and breezy, the ruching at the bust creates an empire waist look when worn as a dress. As a skirt, the ruching fits comfortably on one’s belly. So easy and comfortable to wear, one can put it on directly after leaving the beach or pool. No matter one’s style preference, there is something for everyone!
