  • Nursing Tops You Deserve

If you just had your baby you are no doubt unable to fit back into your pre-pregnancy clothes and not too excited about wearing your maternity clothes too much longer. Sure it's fun to look pregnant when you are pregnant, but who wants to be asked "when are you due" at 3 weeks postpartum? What's more, if you plan to nurse, the last thing you want to do is flash your postpartum belly to the world while trying to unhook a new nursing bra for your hungry baby. You deserve better than this for all the work you have been through in birthing and nurturing a newborn plus 9 months of pregnancy, so treat yourself to some fashionable but very useful nursing tops that make you feel pretty and make nursing on-the-go a much easier task.

There's no need to wear a frumpy 2 fabric layer old-school nursing top in the middle of summer or ever. Now a-days there are a ton of cute and hip nursing top styles on the market that don't look a thing like a nursing top. Look for a neck style that flatters your face shape. This is a time to play up your neckline as well as your bust line while it is in full bloom. So pick a style that flatters your face and figure.

Olian Maternity has some great new styles to choose from this summer such as their Round Neck Maternity/Nursing top. This pretty lipstick shape empire waist top can be worn for either maternity or postpartum for nursing. The back sash tie makes it easily adjustable to your shape and the front pleats do wonders to disguise a postpartum belly while not tenting out. Attention is drawn to the pretty neckline, cap sleeves and fitted ruching empire waist style while the belly area is completely camouflaged. Nursing access is under the empire waist which makes nursing a breeze without showing any skin.

Another great look is the deep V-neck top with a faux pick-a-boo cami to make discreet nursing easy the fabric lightweight cool for hot summer months. Take a look at Maternal America's Combo Maternity/Nursing top which is cut extra long for style and comfort and could even be worn with leggings in early pregnancy and postpartum. If your maternity leave is over and you are ready to head back to the office but don't have a suitable top to wear, much less one that looks good on and fits your changing shape, then check out Japanese Weekend's nursing tops which make for excellent transition wear to the office or out on the town in the evening. Their D&A (during and after) line of maternity/tops provide a lot of sophisticated styles in cool prints and solids. In particular, their D&A ¾ sleeves Sash Tie in pretty Teal is a great all-season look for any workplace. • Show Off Your Assets

Whether pregnant or not, you always want to dress to play up your assets. When you are pregnant, you may gain new assets, like a bigger chest or a more voluptuous bottom. Now is the time to experiment with some new styles and show off your curves.

    Show Off Your Chest

nursing tankiniWhen you are pregnant, your chest may "pop" long before your belly does. This is the time to play up your chest with flirty necklines and a little more cleavage. Experiment with sweetheart design dresses and tops with show off your shoulders and give a smooth foundation. Invest in a well fitted bra for a smooth sculpted look. Make sure you your bra cups, straps and underwires don't dig into your skin as you don't want to constrict breasts, just support.

The kimono top style works very well for both maternity and postpartum for nursing. Pair this wide V neck style top with a pretty necklace and just a enough cleavage and you will be a showstopper. Collarbones are always sexy to show off as well. So, if you have defined collarbones, wear a scoop neck or bodice top without a necklace and some spotlight earrings. Avoid turtlenecks and high necklines that just add bulk. Shapeless tops that many pregnant women opt for make larger bust and a pregnant belly just look big overall and do not flatter your curves. Generally more fitted is more flattering than bulky shapeless designs that just adds weight.

    Flaunt Your Butt

crop jeansIf you have a great butt, then play it up. Fitted jeans with cute seamed pockets add that bit of accentuation to your assets. However, jeans and pants with big flap back pockets actually increase the volume of your backside without defining your curves. Skirts or pants with contoured seams give a rounded smooth appearance to the bottom and de-emphasize the sides, particularly if want to play down your hips. Ruching designs in a dress or long fitted top that extends along the entire back to the bottom gives a voluptuous sexy look without adding volume or pounds. Cropped jackets that hit higher on your waist show off your bottom, especially when they are in a contrasting color to your pants. TIP: Thongs or seamless briefs are better undergarments when wearing snug pants or dresses and thinner fabrics.

    If You Love Your Arms

Then play them up with ruffled cap sleeve tops or dresses or a racer-back tank with a sequined front that defines shoulders and plays up arms. Try a strapless or one shoulder dress to put the focus on your arms and shoulders. A choice necklace with a fancy neckline can always help draw attention to arms. Also, a dark color bottom with a lighter color top draws eyes upwards.

    Show Off Your Legs

Just because you have a baby bump doesn't mean you have to hide your legs. In warmer weather don't be afraid to wear some short shorts or babydoll dresses. Avoid long and mid calf length skirts or loose pants and capris that hide legs and add bulk. Play up your legs with sheer, opaque or textured tights. Remember to moisturize legs or even try a light faux tanner to even out skin tone and add a hint of color.

Pregnancy can be a fun time to experiment with different kinds of fashion and styles. As you body is constantly evolving each month, try to highlight a different asset as you shop for new maternity clothes. Look for clothes that have a lot of stretch to take you through the season as your belly grows. Remember that fitted is often more flattering and slimming than the undefined tented look our mothers were subject to during their pregnancies. Fashion should be fun, so enjoy your new curves!

  • Maternity Clothes For All Body Types

When you are pregnant, suddenly your shape and size are changing daily. What looks used to work well and flatter your figure may suddenly look ridiculous or unflattering on your evolving frame. This can be particularly challenging around the Holiday Season or for more dress-up occasions when you really want to look your best and not let pregnancy get in the way. Here are some general guidelines to dressing when pregnant according to you shape.

    Generally When Pregnant

When you are pregnant don't be afraid to show some skin. A pregnant body can be very sensual and you still have great assets. So don't be shy about showing off great legs or pretty arms, shoulders or going strapless. Be sure to define your shape the way your like it. You want some definition to you pregnant belly without going uncomfortably skin tight. Grecian can be flattering as it can drape over your curves to show off the gist of your belly without showing your belly button in detail. However, too big equates to baggy which only makes you look bigger. An empire waist looks that are more contained look great on almost any pregnant body type. Belting dresses beneath the bust can create this look. Deep shades like teal and plum that are popular this season are flattering on pregnant shapes, particularly if you are further along than busy patterns or metallics

    Busty

Maternal America Flutter SkirtIf you are the busty type you are probably three times more busty when you are expecting. Your body has taken on new dimensions and everything you try on seems to be accentuated by your pronounced cleavage. A good look to try to de-emphasize the chest is a flirty dress in one shade. By sticking to one shade of color your figure becomes elongated and you look much leaner and slimmer.

Also going with a more tailored or structured dress that gives you a clear silhouette, you better define your shape. For example, instead of going hippie chic, go with better bust support and strong vertical pleats. A hemmed and pleated knee length flirty dress with a structured chest and wide straps will do wonders for your figure. Finally, always look to support and lift. Forget strapless or backless dresses as you will never find the level of support you need. Always look for a dress or top with wide enough shoulder straps for a supportive bra.

    Hippy

Maternal_America_Embellished_DressA skirt or dress with inverted pleats keeps hips looking narrower. An A-line skirt is also a good choice for camouflaging hips. Even just a flared hem de-emphasizes the hips. Again choose structure in defining your silhouette so you show off a small empire waist and don't get swallowed in something loose and baggy. Remember to show off your best assets, so if you have pretty shoulders, flaunt them with a sleeveless bodice dress, strapless or one shoulder style. Draw attention to your best body parts up high - look for a jeweled neckline or brighter colors around the face or neck. Even wearing some bling jewelry will keep the gaze upwards.

    Petite

If you are petite and you don't want to tower in platform shoes or stilettos when you are pregnant, there are some other tricks to add some length to your frame. If you have great legs, then show them off. Go for shorter hems and sheerer hose to elongate your shape. Show off some skin somewhere- arms and necklines are a great place to start. Pleats and bubble hem can work well if its not overdone - you want to add some volume without looking like a powder puff. Accessorize smartly. A few well chosen pieces that don't weigh you down is all you need to add some height.

    Tall

If you are tall, then you have a lot of choices. Tall frames can get away with prints and patterns, horizontal stripes and all the usual hazards most women need to avoid can actually be more flattering when tall. Do make sure your clothing fits you well. Beware of cuts that tent out and make you appear bigger than you are or that miss your curves. Sleek and fitted always looks better no matter how far along you are in your pregnancy. Do be careful with super short hemlines and minis as they can make you look like a giant whose clothes got shrunk in the dryer. Otherwise, have fun with accessories as you can get away with more to wear as you have more space to fill!

So whatever your shape, find some maternity clothes that fit and flatter your figure and make you feel as beautiful and sexy and as you truly are. Bottom line, if you feel great in the clothes you are in, then you will project that to those around you.

I love when the warm weather starts each spring and summer season because it means I can finally bring out my favorite fashion staple: the dress. Whether it is a sundress, a maxi-dress, or a cute LBD, I wear dresses every chance I get. For a variety of reasons they have become my favorite fashion staple. They can be dressed up or dressed down, worn for a night out on the town or for a day at the beach. When nursing, dresses are a great staple to pepper your wardrobe with, as you will find comfort, practicality, and fashion all in one. Nursing dresses are stylish yet functional, and the variety available ensures that every nursing mom will find something to fit her needs.

OV181_5Maxi dresses are huge this season, as they are a stylish and comfortable option for expectant and nursing mothers. A hugely popular option this year is the Beach Maternity/Nursing Dress from 1 in the Oven. Effortlessly classic chic yet trendy at the same time, this gauze fabric dress will keep you comfortable all day long. The light-weight fabric makes this perfect for the beach, a lunch around town, or running errands. When paired with cute strappy sandals or flip-flops, an entire look is instantly created. The gorgeous neckline and empire waist are incredibly flattering, and the flowing fabric creates a sophisticated look. Another maxi dress which is a great stylish option for your spring and summer wardrobe is the Maternity & Nursing Maxi Dress from Japanese Weekend. A v-neck design creates a long and slimming look and the empire-waist highlights the smallest part of your body. A geometric tribal pattern highlights one of the biggest trends this season and creates an allover cohesive look. With easy and discreet nursing access, this nursing maxi dress is perfect for a day or night out on the town.

0MA-D8049_2When the weather is warm, throwing on a cute sundress is a quick and easy way for a busy mother to instantly put together an entire outfit. One of my favorite dresses is Maternal America’s Nursing Dress. This sexy and sophisticated dress can easily be worn dressed down with gladiator sandals and a big bag, or dressed up as the perfect LBD with heels and a shiny clutch. The crossover design with wide shoulder straps provides support for the nursing mother while also creating easy and discreet nursing access. The super-soft fabric drapes stylishly over your belly if you choose to wear this as a maternity dress, or gently hides your postpartum baby weight. Effortlessly stylish yet practical, this nursing dress is a fantastic option for nursing mothers.

An incredibly cute and stylish LBD is the Lucy Maternity/Nursing Dress from 1 in the Oven. Hitting just above the knee and designed with a flattering scoop neck, this dress is incredibly versatile. Easily dressed down with flats or sandals during the day or dressed up at night with some funky heels, it can be worn in a variety of different settings. Made of super soft Modal fabric and designed with a flattering empire waist, you will be comfortable and stunning. Easy and discreet nursing access is created by simply lifting the top layer at the empire line to access two nursing slits. One of the best features of this dress is the gentle pleating at the belly, which helps to hide and postpartum baby weight. This LBD is comfy, stylish, and will fulfill your nursing mom needs!

Overall, adding several go-to dresses to your spring and summer wardrobes is a great idea for the busy nursing mother. A dress creates a quick, stylish, and comfortable outfit very easily, leaving you feeling and looking beautiful. Whether you choose to dress it up or down, a nursing dress is a perfect staple for the busy mother.

  • Paula Patton's Red Carpet Pregnancy Style

At the Academy Awards this past weekend, expectant mother Paula Patton looked absolutely stunning. Co-starring in the Oscar winning film "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire", in which Paula demonstrates her incredible acting abilities; she rocked the red carpet at seven months pregnant. Married to her high school sweetheart, singer and songwriter Robin Thicke, they are expecting their first child (a boy to be named Julian!) in May. This entire awards season Paula has looked gorgeous in every gown she chose, with her maternity red carpet style being impeccable at every event.

At the "Keep a Child Alive" gala in November, Paula wore a gorgeous and modern cocktail dress. Still at the beginning months of her pregnancy, she chose a visually interesting abstract dress. The abstract design makes an otherwise simple dress modern, and the shape of the dress fit her beautifully. The longer sleeve is sophisticated and also draws the attention upwards. With a simple, pulled back updo, Paula truly looks stunning. For a similar look that can be dressed up or down, try the Beaded Print Dress from Maternal America. The abstract pattern and ¾ length sleeve mirror Paula's flattering look. A v-neckline elongates the neck and frames the face beautifully, while the bead detailing at the bust creates a great shape and visual interest. From day to night, this dress works for many occasions.

In January, Paula was seen at many red carpet events, looking equally gorgeous at every one. At the People's Choice Awards she wore a gorgeous LBD (little black dress) which was very figure flattering and a great choice for expectant mothers. The deep v-neck creates a longer and leaner look, while the gathering underneath the bust accentuates the smallest part of the body while still flattering the baby bump. For a similar style but more casual look try the Organic D&A Maternity/Nursing Dress from Japanese Weekend. A v-neck and empire waist is figure flattering. Like Paula's dress, small cap sleeves are cute and trendy (and great for those with smaller shoulders, as they balance out the body). For a great night out look, Maternal America's Beaded Diamond Dress provides the same great neck and bust line, creating an elegant yet sexy look.

One of my favorite looks of Paula's many gorgeous red carpet appearances was at the Golden Globes in mid-January. Her dress absolutely wowed me! The strapless gown accentuated her shoulders and created a beautiful neckline. The cinched empire waist drew attention to the smallest part of the body, above the natural waist, and then gracefully skimmed her body, creating a long and lean look. The sparkling of the dress, combined with the gorgeous jewelry she wore, really made a statement. A similar red carpet look is the Sleeveless Maxi Maternity Dress from Olian. Although not strapless, the intricate strapped design draws the attention upwards, creating a beautiful neckline. A delicate empire waist gathers just underneath the bust and drapes beautifully to the ground. Adding bold sparkling earrings and a great bracelet create the jeweled look of Paula's Golden Globe worthy gown.

At the Academy Awards just last week, Paula hit another high style note with her beautiful red gown. At seven months pregnant, she looked radiant and stunning, celebrating her baby bump and accentuating all her best features. A wide v-neck elongates the neck and shows off her gorgeous shoulders. With the added ruffle at the neck (a hot spring trend!) a visually interesting neckline is created. Since there is more skin showing on top, a longer dress is the perfect way to go, as it balances out the entire look. I love that Paula chose to wear red. It makes a statement, looking classy and subtly sexy in one. Paula has her hair pulled back, which is always a great option when wearing a dress with an intricate neckline. Also, if your shoulders or collarbone are one of your favorite features, it is a great way to show them off.

Throughout all stages of her pregnancy, Paula has looked stunning on the red carpet. With her growing baby bump, she demonstrates great ways to wear maternity fashions. Although most of us will not be walking the red carpet, certain aspects of her gowns work well for any occasion. A gorgeous neckline, an empire waist, or some funky jewelry looks great for many maternity clothes. Congratulations Paula and Robin! We can't wait to see baby Julian!

  • Bethenny Frankel’s “Real” Maternity Style

With The Real Housewives of New York starting its new season this week, Bethenny Frankel will once again be showing off her great style and fun personality each Thursday evening. A trained natural foods chef, author, television star, and weekly contributor in many health and fitness magazines, Bethenny’s schedule seems incredibly busy and fulfilling. However, at thirty nine, she is gearing up for the most important moment of her life: becoming a mother. Expecting her first child in June with fiancé Jason Hoppy, Bethenny looks happy and healthy. As her baby bump grows, I cannot help but notice her great maternity style. From cute work out gear to gorgeous dresses, her pregnancy looks combine comfort with fashion. She knows how to rock that baby bump!

Staying active during pregnancy is important, and Bethenny does it in style. She combines a supportive tank top embellished with a cute logo on the front with a great pair of stretch workout pants. A top like this is great, as it will stretch to fit your changing body shape. Longer tank tops provide extra belly coverage. Wide shoulder straps or a t-shirt design is a good idea, since it will provide more bust support. For a similar look try the Boy or Girl Tank from Due and Sprout. A great pair of stretch work out pants is a good investment for expectant mothers. Whether worn for a walk or running errands, soft, stretchy pants will keep you feeling comfortable and looking stylish throughout your day. 1 in the Oven makes their Super Soft Ruched Foldover Pant, perfect for during and after pregnancy.

In January, Bethenny was spotted in Miami looking every bit the fashionable expectant mother. Cute black leggings and a flowing red top looked stylish yet comfortable. Although Bethenny paired her outfit with a gorgeous wool coat and scarf, this look is adaptable to the upcoming warm weather by simply leaving the coat at home. Black leggings, such as Olian’s Maternity Leggings, are stretchy and comfortable. They allow room for the belly to expand while being trendy and stylish. When paired with a flowing top, the tightness of the leggings is balanced out by the looseness of the shirt. The Split Sleeve Bubble Maternity Top from Olian creates a beautiful shape while recreating the flowing shape. This is a great day looked when paired with flats and a more casual t-shirt, but can easily be worn at night with a longer embellished tank top and a cute blazer.

One of my favorite looks of Bethenny’s is the red dress she wore to the Heart Truth Show this past month to kick off Fashion Week. Strutting the runway in a ruched knee length dress, she looked fit, trendy, and happily pregnant. One gorgeous aspect of this dress is the detailed neckline. With a wide, one-shoulder strap, a beautiful and interesting frame is created for the face. Ruching on a dress is not only trendy, it is also figure flattering. It camouflages any bloating you may feel while creating a gorgeous figure. If you are ready to show off your baby bump, this is a pretty and trendy way to do it.

Throughout her pregnancy Bethenny has shown off her signature pregnancy style. Whether working out or walking the runway, she wears clothes that are both figure flattering and comfortable. By choosing pieces which are comfortable yet flatter your shape, you will look and feel great throughout the day. With the new season of The Real Housewives of New York starting this week, I am hoping to see some of Bethenny’s great maternity style on display!

Olian V-Neck Maternity TopFloral prints, while always in style when warm weather approaches, are even more popular this season. From gorgeous maxi dresses to fluttery blouses, floral patterns are in bloom. Whether worn as an addition to an outfit on a purse or shoe or worn as an all over print on a dress, floral designs are making a big statement. A floral print will really bring a fresh feel to your spring and summer wardrobes.

Pregnancy is a great time to experiment with florals as you really are in full bloom with your ever changing body. Match your glow with a floral that is just right for your style and personality. Floral patterns and styles are so diverse now, you can look fresh and fashionable in the right floral style. Keep a few tips in mind when wearing a floral print and you are sure to look beautiful and feel confident!

    1) Choosing the right size is always important when it comes to clothes, especially when dealing with floral prints. A simple rule to keep in mind (as Stacy and Clinton always reiterate on What Not to Wear) is to keep the size of the print in proportion with the size of your body. If you are petite, look for smaller flower sizes so that you will not look overpowered. If you are taller or have a larger build many sizes look good, but larger floral prints always look great.

JW_Floral_Maxi_Maternity_Dress2) If choosing to wear a floral print dress, top, or skirt, keep the accessories simple. An all over maxi dress looks stunning when paired with simple sandals or espadrilles. You can easily pull your favorite color from the dress and find a great necklace, bracelet, or shoe in that color. If you choose to wear a great floral top, pair it with a neutral bottom, and vice versa. By keeping the pattern only on the clothing and accessorizing with complimentary colors, a polished look is created.

    3) If you are really worried about looking frumpy in florals or can't get the kitchen curtains out of your mind, then go for the more abstract paisley patterns. This also gives a refreshing crisp look for spring while sure to be modern and a far cry from curtains or your mother's wardrobe.

    4) If wearing an all over floral print is not for you, try accessorizing with florals in a small but stylish way. A great pair of flats, a large ring in the shape of a flower, or a floral print scarf all make great additions to your favorite outfit and will really provide a stylish sense of spring.

JW_2_Piece_ConvertibleFrom dainty flower necklaces to an abstract floral print skirt, there is a way to incorporate the floral style into your wardrobe. Most of all it is important that you feel comfortable in your choice of florals that match your sense of personal style. You can make florals edgy by your shoe and jewelry choice and simply by breaking it up a bit with a pair of leggings for a sleeker look. Feel confident and comfortable in your floral choice and anything you choose will look great!
